Referral-only collective · Missions for the flock

Odd name. Sharp team.

Missions for a referral-only collective — not job posts, not open hiring.

We build your idea or join your team. Right profiles, clear quote.

Missions

Two kinds of missions

Same flock, same quote process — different shape depending on what you need.

  • We build your idea

Product, platform, or technical initiative — we assemble the right people from the flock to design and ship it with you, end to end.

  • We join your team

Embed in your rituals, codebase, and delivery — extra capacity and judgment inside how you already work.

On the mission

What we bring

Skills the flock draws on. One mission often leans on one; we bring in more members when scope needs more hands.

  • New

    AI Engineering

LLM integration, RAG pipelines, autonomous agents, and AI-first product design — built with your team, not slideware.

  • Technical leadership

Experienced engineers, architecture decisions, and CTO advisory when you need someone in the room who has done the work.

  • Software engineering

Backend, frontend, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps across the full stack. We ship things that work.

  • Auditing & due diligence

Code reviews, process audits, technical due diligence, and hiring support. We tell you what's actually going on.

Your mission

How a mission runs

Whether we are building your idea or joining your team, the path is the same — the right people from the flock, a clear quote, then we start when you are ready.

  1. Bring the mission

Something to build, or people inside your team — problem, context, timeline. No pitch theater. We need enough to know who fits.

  2. We assemble the team

Based on the mission, we pick members from the flock who match — named people, not an anonymous bench.

  3. Detailed quote

Scope, who is involved, tradeoffs — written so you can decide before anything big moves.

  4. Start when you are ready

No pressure. We join your team or kick off the build when it makes sense — shipping in increments that compound.

Community fund

5% on every mission

Every quote includes a 5% addition on top of member rates — shown in the detailed quote before you commit, not added later. It funds the flock: events, shared tools, and collective work members run together.

Why it's different

No fluff.
No pitch theater.

  • Named people

You know who is on the mission — assembled from the flock for your scope, not a rotating cast of juniors.

  • People who've been there

Everyone in the flock has shipped things that break at 3am and owned the fix. No on-the-job learning at your cost.

  • No markup theatre

The day rate is the day rate. No hidden account margin. The people doing the work are the people you talk to.

  • We say no

If your problem isn't a good match for the flock, we'll tell you. No overpromising on either side.

The flock

A collective of people who know how it works.

Tech and AI-first — agile coaching to infrastructure, software to AI engineering. Each member keeps their clients and their rate; the flock makes the work better.

Not a platform. Not an agency. Not a body-shop. When a mission needs more than one person, work circulates inside the flock first.

Three things we're not

  • Not a marketplace

No algorithm, no bidding, no race to the bottom.

  • Not an agency

No markup, no account manager between you and the client.

  • Not a body-shop

No one gets assigned work they didn't choose.

Membership

Referral only. No open door.

There is no application form, no careers page, no open hiring. We work with freelancers only — not employees, and we are not looking to hire anyone onto a payroll. Every new profile is introduced by an existing member and validated through a successful first mission — client and team satisfied. Trust through shipping, not interviews.

What we look at

When someone introduces you.

  1. Technical depth — genuinely strong in their craft.
  2. Experience — shipped real things in production.
  3. Soft skills — works inside client teams without friction.
  4. Portfolio — the work speaks for itself.
  5. Methodology — how they think, communicate, handle complexity.

No years-of-experience threshold. No required stack. The bar is behavioural: you ship, you care, you know how work gets done.

  1. 01

    Get introduced

A member of the flock introduces you. No cold applications — if you don't know someone in the flock, you don't enter through the front door.

  2. 02

    First mission

You start with real work — a collaboration or mission where client and team see how you operate. Trust is built through shipping, not paperwork.

  3. 03

    You're in the flock

When the first mission lands well, you're fully integrated — Discord, shared missions, peer support. Your practice stays yours.

Values

How we operate.

  • Your practice

The collective is not your employer. You keep your clients, your rate, and how you work.

  • Trust over process

Membership is earned through referral and track record — not forms and interviews.

  • Horizontal

No permanent leadership. Responsibility rotates. Decisions are made collectively.

  • Quality over quantity

We will never optimise for headcount. We optimise for the strength of the collective.

  • Honest

We say what we are and what we're not — to clients, members, and candidates.

  • Participatory

The collective is only as good as the people who show up.

Not in the flock yet?

Meet members in person.

Membership is referral-only — no application form on the site. We host events where you can meet people from the flock, see how we work, and get introduced later if it clicks. Join the waiting list for the next one.

FAQ

Common questions

Missions, the flock, membership, and how to reach us.

How is Kannard different from an agency?

Named people from a referral-only collective — not a non-technical account manager, not a bench of juniors. We assemble the right profiles for your mission, quote clearly, and embed with your team. No marketplace, no body-shop, no markup on markup.

What kinds of missions do you take on?

Two shapes: we build your idea or product with you, or we join your existing team and embed in how you work. Under both, we assemble members from the flock, send a detailed quote, and start when you are ready.

How do I bring you a mission?

Book a 30-min call or email hello@kannard.org — say whether it is a build or a join, plus context and timeline. We route missions to the flock.

Can I apply or send my CV?

No open hiring and no application form. We work with freelancers only — not employees. Membership is referral-only: introduced by a member, validated through a successful first mission.

Who works on my mission?

Based on the mission, we assemble members from the flock who fit — you see who is involved in the quote before you commit. One collective behind the team, not a permanent account lead.

How do you price missions?

No public rate card — depends on scope and who joins. Every mission includes a 5% community contribution on top of member rates, visible in the quote. We'll be direct on a call.
